One beach.
Endless versions.
Devereux Beach, Marblehead. A familiar stretch of water, and a new question every time.
Field guide · no live forecast connectedRead the coast, not just the number.
Between Sets will be a home for the daily Devereux surf report: the forecast before a session, the ocean we actually find, and what the difference teaches us. This opening note sets up that habit. It does not report observed conditions.
A useful session log.
| Before the session | At the beach |
|---|---|
| Swell height, period, and direction | Observed breaking-wave size and spacing |
| Wind direction and speed | Surface texture and changes during the session |
| Tide stage and time | Where waves break, and which bars are visible |
| Your expectation | What surprised you; one question for next time |
Go to the instruments.
Buoy observations are regional clues. Their location, depth, measurement time, and exposure matter. Check the timestamps at the source and compare with what you can actually see at the beach.
First journal prompt: find two sessions with similar wave height and different periods. Did the waves feel different? What else changed?
The journal grows from real sessions.
Future entries can pair your daily report with photographs, a short clip, and one scientific connection. Forecast snapshots and observed conditions will be labeled separately so we can compare the prediction with the experience.
